Dramatic Late Winner By Parrott

Ireland beat Hungary to end their impressive run of victories

Dramatic late winner by Parrott

Ireland secured a dramatic 1-0 win over Hungary in a friendly match in Debrecen on Tuesday night, ending the hosts' unbeaten run of 12 matches.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Troy Parrott scored the winning goal in the 93rd minute, heading home a cross from substitute James McClean.

The result was a major boost for Ireland, who had lost their previous two matches against Ukraine and Scotland.

Speaking after the match, Ireland manager Stephen Kenny praised his players for their performance.

"I'm delighted with the result and the performance," he said. "It was a difficult game, but the players showed great character and determination."

Hungary, ranked 40th in the world, had been in impressive form in recent months, winning their UEFA Nations League group and beating England in Budapest in June.

However, they were unable to maintain their winning streak against Ireland, who are now ranked 51st in the world.

The match was also notable for the debut of 17-year-old defender Mark Sykes, who came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute.
